Frontier AI Grand Challenge: The Winner is Out
We are thrilled to finally announce the winner of the Frontier AI Grand Challenge.
After reviewing several promising proposals, one standout project has been selected to train a frontier AI model that will outperform state-of-the-art models.
Meet the Winner
EUROPA by Domyn, Fraunhofer IAIS and Fraunhofer IIS.
The winning proposal was submitted by DOMYN, who will integrate a fully EU-controlled consortium alongside Fraunhofer IAIS and Fraunhofer IIS.
The consortium will develop a massive 500-billion-parameter AI model trained across all 24 official EU languages. Unlike current AI systems developed outside of Europe, EUROPA will be the first frontier model to deeply capture Europe’s unique legal, administrative, and cultural knowledge.
Built exclusively on open data and released under a transparent open-source licence (Apache 2.0), EUROPA will ensure that any European institution can safely audit, reproduce, and extend the technology.
To make this ambitious vision a reality, the winner will receive free access to the EuroHPC infrastructure essential for training and developing frontier AI models. This includes a secured allocation of up to 2.5% of EuroHPC’s computing capacity for one year.
The Frontier AI Grand Challenge coordinated by AI-BOOST was developed in collaboration with the European Commission and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.
We look forward to seeing the incredible impact this transparent, highly efficient model will have on European industries and public services over the coming year!
